Why You Should Travel While ‘Trying’ and Where To Go

I was hesitant to plan a lot of big or long trips while we were ‘trying’ because I thought at any moment I might be pregnant, and I may not want to go on a big trip while pregnant. Well this is incorrect thinking for numerous reasons.

Why You Should Travel While ‘Trying’

First, I obviously didn’t get pregnant for months and months and months (hello infertility!) If I didn’t plan these trips, I would have missed out on all the fun and not been pregnant anyway. My girlfriends from work were planning a fun girls trip, and I almost didn’t go! Remember when I went to Ireland about a year ago? I would have missed out on so much fun.

Second, whenever I would get my period (and I knew I wasn’t pregnant AGAIN), I had a fun trip to look forward to and that made me feel a little bit better. There’s not much that can take your mind off the fact that your body cannot seem to create another life, but travel is one of the biggest things that helped me cope that’s for sure.

Third, even if you do end up pregnant (yay!) you can still go on that trip! I would steer clear of destinations that aren’t super pregnancy friendly (i.e. Zika), but you can pretty much go where you want!

What About Zika?

The obvious concern with traveling while pregnant is zika. We took our last trip to a ‘zika destination’ in February of 2017 (Cabo). After being in a country with zika, the man can carry zika for 6 months, and the woman for 2 months. You have to wait 6 months to start trying if both of you were in that country. This is all from the CDC. Things change often so check the site regularly. For example, the Bahamas used to be on the list and it came off!

Where I traveled While Trying

  • Cruise to Key West and Bahamas (we did this twice!)
  • LA (mostly West Hollywood)
  • Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA
  • Cape Coral, Florida
  • San Francisco, CA
  • Cruise to Italy, Greece, and Malta
  • Scottsdale, AZ
  • Reykjavik, Iceland
  • Dublin, Ireland
  • Breckenridge, CO
  • West Palm Beach, FL
  • Bimini, Bahamas

The day after we got back from the Bahamas we got the positive pregnancy test! For our babymoon, we are planning to go to Hawaii! This is another great idea for where to travel while trying!
