a day in west hollywood!

here are some fun photos from our day in west hollywood. i had to go to LA for work, and tony met me for the weekend. he came in late friday and we had to leave on sunday so we basically had one full day to walk around and check out the area. we stayed at the standard hotel. my friend recommended this hotel for the location and it was perfect! we were able to walk everywhere we wanted in west hollywood and there were a lot of great bars and restaurants near the hotel. they also have an amazing pool! on my wishlist was to check out some of cool street art in west hollywood (this is one my favorite things to do!) so we spent a lot of the day just walking around. we also had brunch at the hudson (mimosa carafe for $12!), geeked out a little bit at sur (vanderpump rules anyone?!), and ended the day at a bar called barney’s beanery where we had an actual celebrity sighting! nick swardson (a fellow minnesotan) was watching the wild game. fun day in la la land!  this is the lobby of the standard. i loved these chairs!!LA was in full bloom when we were there. it was so gorgeous! i’m not kidding when i say that the roses outside of a liquor store were prettier than pretty much any flowers in minnesota. i feel bad saying that… but so true!
this is alfred’s coffee on melrose. they are famous for their “but first, coffee” mural inside. this is the infamous “alley” outside of sur where they are always arguing on vanderpump. i say “alley” because right next to me is a parking lot with a bunch of cars. it’s interesting how they can make things look on tv! so much fun street art! i kept seeing these smiley faces everywhere. if anyone knows anything about them, let me know! this is the famous pink wall in west hollywood. i just had to!! right? if you are trying to see this, it is on the side of paul smith so just look that up! selfie saturday! this ‘made in la’ street art is on the side of cisco home. so again, just look this up if you are in west hollywood. tony was like, “you want to go to cisco’s home? that’s the celebrity home you want to see?”
finished the weekend at the pool. isn’t this pool amazing?! warning: you must love extremely loud music. i feel old saying that, but they have a DJ playing SUPER loud music. this is not sponsored by the way, just loved this hotel!

see you later LA! also hopefully you already saw this post but the sunglasses i wore all weekend are from nora nyc. 10% off with code NewShades!

going back back to cali cali.

hello from sunny california! i am out in la for work right now and wanted to check in. one of my favorite parts of coming out here is the food! i had mexican food for lunch and a poke bowl for dinner. i’m also looking forward to maybe dumplings, or korean, or maybe in-n-out burger… i just can’t decide! if any of you reading this have recommendations for south bay area, let me know!

when i was packing to come out here (hello warm weather!) i packed only three pairs of heels! for six days this is pretty good guys okay?

it occurred to me that these really are the only three pairs of heels you need for spring.

  • a peep toe bootie
  • an espadrille wedge
  • a mule

also these shoes are all under $60! i have them linked below.

minnesota proud launch!

the day is finally here! minnesota proud just launched their clothing line! if you follow @mnproud on instagram, you know their feed is full of amazing photos of minnesota. if you hashtag #mnproud you have a chance to be featured on their feed. they actually featured this photo of mine awhile back! i love that they have decided to launch a clothing line with their brand ‘minnesota proud’ so that we can all show the world how proud we are to be minnesotans!

here are some details on the items i am wearing:

crop top // i ordered a large and it’s super fitted on me, so size up! there is another style that is slightly different and white. also this top is very cropped, so it looks super cute with either very high waisted jeans or a high waisted skirt.

crew neck sweatshirt // this is a size medium and is very oversized (classic fit). if you like things more fitted, i would size down. color is white, but many colors available!

baseball tee // this is a size medium and again it’s pretty oversized so size down if you like it fitted. it looks really cute with a front tuck in a pair of jeans or i also wore it recently with leggings! color is the heather grey/heather charcoal.

shopbop sale!

another shopbop sale! the sale goes until tomorrow, and this time around the deal is 20% off orders of under $500 and 25% off orders over $500 with code EVENT17. i know i’ve mentioned this before, but shopbop can be pricey so i always shop the sales! i bought these distressed jeans yesterday that i’ve wanted for a long time and for 20% off it was finally time!

i thought it would be fun to show you my favorite trends in the shopbop sale. just click on the image to be directed to their site to purchase!

yellow: i’ve always loved yellow and this year it seems to be making a real comeback!

distressed denim: i mentioned already that i bought a pair of distressed jeans yesterday, but here are a few of my favorites.

white + feminine: i love how sweet and sophisticated these pieces look.

tan sandals: i bought a few pairs in this color for spring and i love that it seems to go with everything!

white + blue: this color combo will always be classic. you just can’t go wrong!

sixties vibes.

i threw on this sixies mod sweater, some big hoop earrings, and fun sunglasses for a coffee date with my husband. one of our local breweries, modist, was having a sunday brunch so we went over there and got coffee from wesley andrews and donuts from sssdudnutz, neither of which we had tried before. very fun morning! i got this sixties mod sweater online at anthropologie recently. i have been eyeing this sweater for MONTHS after one of my favorite bloggers taza was wearing it. i instantly loved the vintage sixties vibe and it just looked so comfy. it was a little spendy but it finally went on sale for 40% off (woo!) and i was ready to buy it, but then they didn’t have any mediums left. i was so disappointed but kept stalking it and stalking it (does anyone else do this?) and finally it came back in stock! this melon color is out completely now, but they have it in yellow (which is gorgeous). a note to any of you looking to buy, the sleeves are long but the torso is short. i definitely need to wear high waisted jeans like these or else maybe my highwaisted skirt. also, as you may have seen here, i’ve been carrying this tote constantly because i’m obssessed with everything white right now. i even did a post about it here! happy hump day!

sweater // jeans // boots // tote

white accessories!

i have never been into wearing white. especially white accessories. besides maybe a converse tennis shoe, i don’t think i’ve ever even worn white shoes. not even at my wedding! this spring for some reason i am really into white! i got this large white tote from old navy. this one is large (can fit my laptop) and has a flat bottom (which i love). it is extremely similar to this one from nordstrom, but this old navy one is only $25 and i love a good deal! these white espadrille flats are from nordstrom last year but they still have them in stock here! i am partial to the “rose all day” but they have some other cute ones too. like these and these! i found some other cute white bags and flats below so i have them all linked. happy monday!

giving you the cold shoulder.

i wore this cold shoulder top to brunch this past sunday. we tried out a new place, eggy’s! it is right by our church (you can see it in the background of some of these photos!) with it being so close to church, i can’t believe we hadn’t been there yet! it was so so good. i got the eggy’s benedict, which instead of english muffins, it had waffles underneath! waffles! i just got this cold shoulder top at express last week and couldn’t wait to wear it for a casual date. the ‘cold shoulder’ is one of my favorite trends for spring. don’t get me wrong, i’m still really into anything just ‘off the shoulder,’ but this is a nice twist! also links to my jeans, bag, and bracelet one and two! i’ve been getting a lot of questions about where my necklace is from, and it was a gift for our wedding (so i’m not really sure where it’s from!) but i think this one from bauble bar is extremely similar!

national stripes day!

j. crew decided that we needed an entire day devoted to stripes, so today (march 31st!) is the first ever  “national stripes day” and to celebrate they are giving a free gift in-store with any stripes purchase. i couldn’t think of a good excuse not to participate in #nationalstripesday so i am wearing this striped off the shoulder top. i don’t wear a ton of patterns, but i do wear lots and lots of stripes. whether it be a ruffled top, skirt, jumpsuit, button-down, dress, or a pair of pants, i love love stripes!

i linked some more stripes below (some j.crew and some not!)

a tale as old as time…

this past week tony and i celebrated five years of being together. to celebrate i made him take me to see beauty and the beast. it was amazing! i loved singing along and seeing how my favorite scenes were brought to the big screen. i wore this yellow dress because i wanted to wear my best ‘belle dress’ on our movie date. if a ‘belle dress’ doesn’t mean something to you, go see the movie! i got this dress last year from asos. does anyone else see a trend? it’s my favorite online shop! they no longer have this dress in stock in yellow, but i found it in burgundy. it’s very on-trend with both the bell sleeves and keyhole. also, here are links to both my boots and my bag! these boots are the only over-the-knee boots I have found that work for me and my wide calves (any of you ladies wide calf girls?)  i have a lot of fun projects coming up, so keep checking back! hope you’re having a great week!
